Senga’s Summer Internship Program

Senga’s internship program has kicked off again for 2021. Working with the local high school, Senga took in two high schoolers and a graduate, who are looking to grow and gain experience in engineering. Ian (17) and Marco (17), from Troy High School, worked with Senga’s top engineers this past June, 2021. Shafial, a recent high school graduate and upcoming college student, has joined us August 2021, to also gain valuable experience.

Senga offers its interns the opportunity to work directly with mechanical engineers to perform analysis and problem-solving for the manufacturing process. Interns gain real-world experience in engineering design techniques, basic shop tools and procedures, engineering economics, GD&T (blue-print reading), manufacturing/mass production, and creative Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) Projects.

Senga looks for hardworking students that are interested and passionate about working in the manufacturing and/or engineering field. “…what I learned will be valuable to my career. All the hands-on experience and knowledge is something that will definitely put me ahead of people that haven’t had it,” remarked Ian (17).

The internship program is ran by our head engineer Tyler Smyth. When Smyth was asked about what it was liked working with the interns he stated “I’ve enjoyed working with all our past interns and excited to work with future ones. The high school interns are always great to work with because they are so willing to learn. A lot of them already come in with CAD-based knowledge already so when they do come to Senga they already know a bit of design, so we can get their hands dirty right away.”

“It is always fun and interesting to have them come in and learn about the process. Prior to coming to Senga they only get to see what they learn in school, but now after working with Senga and seeing what’s like they tend to leave with a new spark and interest in manufacturing and engineering field. It’s exciting to see people enjoy the work that we do.”

Our high school internship programs consist of shadowing the engineers and side project assignments to them gain real experience in engineering design. Our college internship program, on the other hand, allows them to work hands on with the Senga engineers on their current projects.
